Tarlac State University launched the Unity Basketball Cup 2022 this afternoon (June 3, 2022) at the TSU Gymnasium with University President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco formally opening the tournament.
The first three games of the single round-robin competition also commenced this afternoon.
The basketball cup is part of the university’s wellness program, which promotes a healthy lifestyle among its employees. Moreover, it also seeks to reinforce unity, camaraderie, and socialization among employees of the different campuses.
“This is a friendship game. Bagamat ito ay physical game, hindi po maiiwasan na minsan may physical pero sana po umiral po sa atin ang puso ng pagkakaibigan, na itong ginagawa nating ito ay to balance our living. Hindi lang puro trabaho, kailangan din po natin ng physical game tulad nito,” President Velasco said in his message to the players during the formal opening.
Players of the said tournament are the teaching and non-teaching employees of the university divided into seven participating teams.
Two teams are composed of faculty members from different colleges, two are from the non-teaching staff, and one team each for the Management Information Systems Office (MISO), Facilities Development and Management Office (FDMO), and a joint team from the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) and the Civil Security Unit (CSU).
This activity is spearheaded by Alumni Affairs Director Dr. Winston Abalos and organized by the TSU Faculty and Personnel Union (TSUFPU), Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA), and Human Resource Development and Management Office (HRDMO) in partnership with the Office of Public Affairs (OPA).
The university also organized a similar basketball cup in 2018 called President’s Cup.
