It is an auspicious beginning, indeed, for the Tarlac State University as members of the editorial board of The Work, the university’s official student publication, bagged their first overall championship of the 18th Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC) held on January 9-11, 2019 at the TSU Lucinda Campus in Tarlac City.
Editor-in-chief Pauline Grace B. Manzano, a graduating student of the College of Engineering and Technology (CET), said that past participations by The Work in the regional competition yielded only runner-up awards.
Today’s win is “a memorable exit,” she said, explaining that majority of the editors, including her, will graduate this semester.
She expressed optimism that they will leave the publication with a legacy that will remain alive for many years.
She said she was proud of her fellow editors who sacrificed their academic works to prepare for the contests.
RHEPC is participated in by 20 public and private universities and colleges from all over Central Luzon and is a qualifying round for the Luzon-wide Higher Education Press Conference, slated to be held within the year.
In the group categories, The Work was adjudged “Overall Best Tabloid” after it won 1st places in the News Page, Development Communication Page, Feature and Literary Page and Page Design categories, and 4th place in Editorial and Opinion Page category and 6th place in the Sports Page category.
The Work magazine, Metanoia, was adjudged “Overall Best Magazine” after it placed 1st in News Page, Development Communication Page and Page Design categories; 2nd place in Editorial and Opinion Page and Cover Design categories; and 3rd place in Sports Page and Feature and Literary Page categories.
The TSU student publication also received the “Overall Newsletter” award by harvesting four 1st places in the News Page, Editorial and Opinion Page, Development Communication Page and Sports Page categories. It also received 2nd place and 4th place awards in Feature and Literary Page and Page Design categories, respectively.
The Work’s Literary Folio landed 6th Best Literary Folio overall.
In the individual categories, the results are as follows: Pauline Grace B.
