The Tarlac Province Community Sports and Wellness Council convened this afternoon (November 24) at the Tarlac Provincial Capitol for its first meeting regarding the province's sports and wellness program.

Tarlac State University's Tarlac Community Sports and Wellness Center (TCSWC) under the TSU PATH (Promotion of Awareness, Teamwork, and Health), funded by the Commission on Higher Education, prompted the creation of the said council to look into the provincial sports and wellness development.

This is the first time for Tarlac Province to have a well-rounded sports council through Governor Susan Yap's Executive Order No. 12, s. 2023.

The council and the center will cater to the 511 barangays of the province, eventually eyeing the Tarlac Province to become the center of sports excellence in the country.

Last November 2022, the TCSWC was enacted through a tripartite memorandum of agreement involving CHED, TSU, and the Provincial Government of Tarlac.

The TCSWC is a program of CHED Commissioner Dr. J. Prospero "Popoy" De Vera that seeks to engage the Tarlaqueños in sports, including the students, underrepresented sectors, the elderly, and the differently abled.

Dr. Krishna Buenaventura, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, and Mr. John Allan Brylle Manalang, Provincial Sports Coordinator, represented the PGT in the said meeting, along with the TCSWC committee members from TSU led by University President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco and representatives from the Department of Interior and Local Government-Tarlac. (jlmm-OPA)
