Tarlac State University and the 702nd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army of the Armed Forces of the Philippines solidified their commitment to educating students on civic duties and obligations through Civil-Military Operations (CMO) activities.
Both parties, represented by TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco and Brigadier General Gulliver L. Señires PA, 23rd Commander of the 702nd Infantry (Defender) Brigade, 7th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, formally sealed the partnership through a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony at the TSU Main AVR on Friday morning (November 24).
Under this partnership, the 702nd Infantry Brigade will engage in on-campus CMO activities utilizing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns, such as campus tours, face-to-face dialogues, group discussions, and a TSU Firefox Campus Radio program.
BGEN Señires visited the university's campus radio at the Smith Hall on the Main Campus to check the facilities for their future radio program with TSU.
These CMO activities align with the Joint Task Group (JTG) Defender's Oplan "Kasangga sa Pagkakaisa" of the 702nd Infantry Brigade.
Moreover, the MOU outlines the army's support for the university's outreach programs within Tarlac Province and assistance to students' research activities in identified depressed areas.
Pres. Velasco thanked the 702nd Brigade in a message and committed to upholding the MOU's terms and conditions to benefit the students.
Likewise, BGEN Señires assured the students' safety and welfare inside and during off-campus activities.
Meanwhile, airing the side of the TSU student leaders, College of Business and Accountancy Governor Ritz Kimwell S. Gonzales emphasized that student leaders and representatives would serve as effective "agents of dissemination." Gonzales stood in as the representative of Charles Terenz E. Fernandez, Supreme Student Council President.
The MOU's validity extends from a minimum of four years to a maximum of six years.
Other guests from the Philippine Army include Lieutenant Colonel Jeszer M. Bautista PA, Commanding Officer of the 3rd Mechanized Infantry Battalion and Captain Jay Lore R. Manaligod PA, Commanding Officer, 1st Civil-Military Operations Company, 7th Civil-Military Operations Battalion, Civil-Military Operations Regiment.
The ceremonial signing was also witnessed by TSU representatives, namely Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Agnes M. Macaraeg, Presidential Assistant Dr. Brigido B. Corpuz, College of Arts and Social Sciences Dean Dr. Aloysius T. Madriaga, and Firefox Radio in-house jockey Prof. Winifredo Luis. (jlmm-OPA)
