Themed “Batang 90’s: Reliving the Hits, Laughs, and Vibes of the 90s,” Tarlac State University held its annual teachers’ night celebration on October 8, 2025 at the Tarlac City Convention Center.
Organized by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Office of Human Resource Development and Management, the event featured speeches, performances from selected students and teachers, and a raffle draw sponsored by the TSU Alumni Association Inc., led by Hon. Reynaldo L. Catacutan, and the TSU Federated Faculty Union, headed by Hon Winifredo L. Luis.
To formally open the celebration, VPAA Dr. Jasper Jay N. Mendoza reflected on the decade that helped shape many teachers’ memories and values.
“Our theme is more than reminiscing. It is a celebration of who we were and who we still are: hopeful dreamers, passionate learners, and teachers who believe in the power of love, laughter, and learning,” VP Mendoza said in his welcome remarks.
VP Mendoza also serenaded the educators with some lines from Sharon Cuneta’s timeless song “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas,” comparing its message to the teachers’ enduring sacrifices for students’ growth.
“We see, we serve, we sacrifice until our voice becomes the voice of hope of all learners, until our journey becomes theirs, and until our strength becomes their foundation,” VP Mendoza said.
“As we relive the hits, laughs, and vibes, may we also rekindle the values that have carried us through the years—T for truth, S for service, and U for unity,” he added.
Meanwhile, TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco recalled his days as a student and the educators who encouraged him to dream and persevere.
“No matter how long you have been teaching, every single one of you is a builder of dreams…When you teach with love, even when it’s hard, you are shaping eternity. Teachers, when you feel weary, remember the harvest is coming: the smile of a student, the success of a graduate, and the gratitude of a parent,” Pres. Velasco said in his inspirational message.
He also engaged the educators to uplift one another, adding, “When one teacher shines, the whole TSU family shines.”
Representing the student body, Supreme Student Council President and Student Regent Hon. Brixter L. Millo thanked the faculty members, calling them ‘true builders of character.’
"You are not just [transmitters] of knowledge; you are [mentors] and true builders of character. Through your patience and dedication, you teach lessons that go far beyond the walls of the classroom,” Millo said. (jlm-OPA)
